The New York Public Service commission has approved contracts for two new transmission projects: the 1,300 MW Clean Path and the 1,250 MW Champlain Hudson Power Express. Both projects will deliver renewable power to the New York City area.
"Today's decision is a major step forward in achieving New York State's goal of 70% of our energy from renewable sources, while paving the way for thousands of high-quality jobs, spurring billions in economic activity, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, and ushering in a cleaner, greener New York for all," Governor Kath Hochul wrote in a public statement.
Here is a map of the planned transmission projects:
While the costs of the projects are partially passed along to the end users of the electricity, the PSC hopes that the influx of additional renewable power will ultimately decrease the cost of electricity supplied to end users. However, there are many factors at play when it comes to the cost of electricity (and natural gas) supply pricing.
